Friends: Choose them wisely

I know you can’t really choose your friends. You meet people and over time they become your friends, but you can choose how your friends will influence you. As long as you establish that you are in fact not your friends and you are your own person, you will have a great life.
The first reason you want to establish your own identity is that friends sometimes do things that aren’t exactly smart. Why should you follow along because of peer pressure? If you know who you are and what you want out of life, you don’t have to deal with unnecessary trouble and your true friends will still be there at the end of the day.
The second reason to separate yourself from your friends is that friends commonly criticize what you enjoy for humor. They might push you away from the things that you love to do because they make fun of it. Establishing the fact that you are different from your friends could easily prevent this. What is cool to your friends may not necessarily be cool to you. I have friends who are into cars and I can’t stand driving. Those same friends can’t sing and I love to sing; yet we are still friends. It is okay to be different.
Friends with a good influence are your friends. They are the people who will support you in your time of need. Even with having those good friends it is always good to depend on your own strength to pick yourself up because friends come and go but it is you who will stand strong.
